A Message from Dr. Tanaka
The most important thing to me in dentistry is making sure each patient truly understands what is happening in their mouth. I take time at every visit to walk through your X-rays, CT scans, and oral photos with you — not because I want to impress you with technology, but because I believe you deserve to see what I see.
Treatment should never feel like something that just happens to you. My approach is collaborative: we look at the findings together, talk through the options, and decide on a plan that fits your goals and your life. I think of it as a partnership, and I take that responsibility seriously.
Background & Career
Dr. Tanaka was born in Japan and moved to the United States at the age of three, growing up in Santa Monica, Los Angeles. He also attended international schools in Japan under an American-based curriculum before transitioning to the Japanese curriculum after his sophomore year and attending Tokyo Medical and Dental University, one of the world’s leading dental schools. Dr. Tanaka graduated from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (now Institute of Science Tokyo) in 2016 and went on to complete his PhD in Periodontology at the same institution. Following his graduate training, he served as a branch director at a dental group practice in Saitama Prefecture, while simultaneously working at a dental office in Azabudai catering to embassy staff and international residents.
Those years treating patients from dozens of countries — many of whom had limited Japanese and were far from their home dental providers — shaped the kind of dentist he became. The experience of helping someone navigate an unfamiliar healthcare system, in a language they understand, left a lasting impression.
In 2026, Dr. Tanaka opened Baseside Dental Office in Fussa — with the goal of bringing that same quality of care to the military community surrounding Yokota Air Base and to all residents of the area.

Outside the Office
When he’s not in the clinic, Dr. Tanaka enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, and two dachshunds. Family is at the center of everything he does — and that same sense of care and attention carries directly into how he treats every patient who walks through the door.
